If your dog is caught in one of these traps you must act fast as they will quickly kill your dog. If you hunt in areas where there is trapping then be prepared. If you ask permission to hunt an area ask the owner if trapping is allowed on the property, he may forget to mention it otherwise. If there is a trapper in your area borrow a trap and practice ahead of time. These traps are often called Conibear traps, being named after the man that invented them, but are made by several different companies. The small single spring models can often be opened by hand if you have a strong grip. The larger double spring ones, however, will require a "setting tool", which most hunters wouldn't be carrying, or a strong cord/shoelace as shown in the drawings/photos above.
